Robert Schwartz of Jones Lang LaSalle was named as the 2005 REALTOR^® of the Year by Greater Washington Commercial Association of REALTORS^® (GWCAR) at a ceremony held Thursday, March 23, 2006 at the Four Seasons in Georgetown.

Schwartz served as President of the association in 2005, focusing his efforts on fiscal growth and expanding the group's visibility in the community. Under his leadership, the Community Involvement Committee was formed to formalize GWCAR's charitable efforts. "These are our communities," said Schwartz. "I wanted to focus our efforts at GWCAR on local charities." In its inaugural year, the GWCAR Community Involvement Committee gave generously to the National Center for Children's Rehabilitation at NRH, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, House of Ruth, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Schwartz's passion for the business of commercial real estate has also earned him respect among his peers. Joe Stettinious of Equity Office Properties, who has worked with Schwartz over the past 15 years, said, "He is a devout advocate for his clients and has a passion for the buildings he works on."

Fellow GWCAR Board Member and colleague Anne Rosenau of Cushman and Wakefield agrees. "He works for his tenants and landlords as if their assets and companies were his own."

Another one of Schwartz's goals for his year as President was to increase the political involvement of the organization. He recognized the importance of the upcoming elections and realized how essential it is for the entire business community, and the commercial industry specifically, to participate in the political process.

GWCAR is a regional trade association dedicated to serving commercial real estate interests throughout the District of Columbia, Suburban Maryland and Northern Virginia. GWCAR strives to make the greater Washington area more conducive to business. Comprised of more than 650 commercial brokers and affiliated professionals, GWCAR is a member-driven, customer-focused service organization, which exists to enhance our members' ability to serve the public, ethically, professionally and successfully.
