CBQ >> Spring 2000 Issue

Remarks from the President

Whew! What a busy spring we've had…I hope that you noticed! The Awards dinner was our highlight performance with nearly 400 people in attendance. We had a few award surprises and several special moments, especially the well-deserved standing ovation for Pat Cassidy's receipt of the Brendan McCarthy award. Judging by the number of people hanging around the Mayflower lounge at 11:30 p.m., I think everyone had a good time!

In addition, we offered a number of educational opportunities, including (for the first time in years) an educational networking breakfast meeting in all three jurisdictions! See our summary report for details on Maryland's transportation meeting, Virginia's technology meeting and D.C.'s BOMA vs. GWCAR and the NOMA submarket. Our two-part legal seminar on negotiating a letter of intent and hot lease issues was standing-room only. All three jurisdictions have several more informative meetings coming up - be sure to watch your announcements.

Now, I would like to take this opportunity to ask for your help - after all, this is our organization! One of my primary goals for 2000 was to increase our membership - topping 500 for the first time ever. This is where you can help. Please talk to your business friends and colleagues and ask the question, "Are you a member of GWCAR?" Increasing membership is one way for GWCAR to continue providing this high level of programs and services.

We currently have 480 members, so I only need a little help! Our web site (www.gwcar.org) has a membership application and all the necessary information, in addition to event information, photos, comps and market information. Check it out if you have not already done so. We are also offering the opportunity to put a banner ad on our web site. Let us know if you are interested.

Thanks, and I look forward to seeing you soon!

Susan Thomas
