Brain Tumor 5K Exceeds $1 Million Mark With This Year's Event

The Cassidy & Pinkard/Brain Tumor Society 5K Run/Walk was held May 4 at Freedom Plaza. This year, over 2,500 participants raised approximately $225,000 bringing the six-year total for the event to $1,200,000.

Most notably, one of the contributions made at the check presentation ceremony was a family from West Point, NY, whose 14-year-old son is battling brain cancer. The family raised a staggering $50,000 and was accompanied by a team of over 100 supporters from around the country.

Maryland Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, DC Mayor Anthony A. Williams and Virginia Governor Mark Warner each signed official proclamations declaring May 4 the beginning of Brain Tumor Action Week in each of their respective jurisdictions. The proclamations call attention to the effort being made in the DC area to find a cure and to give hope to those diagnosed with brain tumors.
