Message from the President
One of the most valuable assets we have as professionals is the guidance and support we receive from our peers. Staying connected with other commercial brokers helps us become better professionals and gives us a sense of community. There is no better vehicle to create a sense of community in the commercial real estate industry than GWCAR.
The GWCAR Awards Dinner was a wonderful example of brokers coming together to honor not only the professional accomplishments of our peers, but also to pay tribute to the memory of our colleagues. I am proud that GWCAR top producers donated $1,000 each to the Brain Tumor Society in honor of Pat Cassidy, the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Make A Wish Foundation in honor of Ed Geisinger, and the James L. Eichberg Foundation.
Our events continue to be highly successful and draw increasingly large crowds. This year's RealTOUR attracted more than 500 attendees, which is an all-time high. We were lucky enough to have a beautiful day to cruise the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers to get a look at new development along Washington's waterfront. I would like to thank Bob Schwartz with Jones Lang LaSalle who served as this year's RealTOUR Committee Chairman. Thanks to the committee's hard work, we had a fabulous event.
We have more exciting events coming up this fall. The GWCAR/NAIOP Industrial and Office EXPO is scheduled for September 20th at the University of Maryland, where we will explore commercial development in suburban Maryland. Our annual Golf Outing is planned for October 1st at the Whiskey Creek Golf Course in Ijamsville, Maryland. This is a new venue for us and a beautiful course.
Mark your calendars now for the EXPO and the Golf Outing. They are both great opportunities to learn about our market and enjoy the sense of community that we share as brokers.
Phillip Thomas
2002 President
