DC's MBL Replaced by BBL; REALTORS® Exempt
A compromise Bill 15-19, "Streamlining Regulation Act of 2003," that created the Basic Business License (BBL) in place of the Master Business License (MBL) was finally transmitted to Mayor Anthony Williams on July 29. The mayor signed the bill into law on August 12. The bill was delayed in reaching the mayor because a detailed review of the legislation was needed after the passage on July 8 to incorporate the compromise amendments. Only businesses that are inspected and already obligated to obtain licenses, should obtain or renew their licenses. REALTORS®, brokers, etc. are not affected.
