WDCAR PAC Endorses DC Council Candidates

Friends of REALTORS® Up For Re-election

The Washington, DC Association of REALTORS® PAC (WDCAR PAC) voted to endorse Jack Evans (Ward 2), Sandy Allen (Ward 8), Harold Brazil and Carol Schwartz (At-Large) for re-election to the Council of the District of Columbia in this year's council elections.

Evans, Allen and Brazil will be competing in the Democratic primary on September 14.

Harold Brazil Harold Brazil, chairman of the council's Committee on Economic Development, has long been a champion of real estate, housing and business issues, leading the fight against higher taxes and the fight for regulatory reform in the District.

Jack Evans Jack Evans, chairman of the Committee on Finance and Revenue, has been instrumental in bringing about the renaissance of downtown Washington through tax increment financing and other creative financing of new retail and housing development projects there. He fought for tax parity for the District and led the charge for a reasonable cap on property tax increases on residential property.

Carol Schwartz Carol Schwartz chairs the Council's Committee on Public Works and the Environment. She has spent recent months holding WASA's feet to the fire on the issue of lead in drinking water and she single-handedly saved the day when the cap on property tax increases was in danger of a procedural death.

Sandy Allen Sandy Allen, who chairs the Committee on Human Services in the DC Council, has represented Ward 8 since 1997 and has worked with REALTORS® and developers to bring housing opportunities to the citizens of Anacostia. She has consistently worked to build coalitions that bring positive results rather than complain about a lack of results.

The 2004 elections in the District are very important for homeowners, for REALTORS® and for their businesses. The candidates endorsed by the WDCAR PAC understand the sometimes delicate balance between government & the marketplace and all of them respect the services, employment, prosperity and community involvement that REALTORS® bring to Washington, DC.

If you are asked, we hope you will enthusiastically support these candidates and we urge you to VOTE on September 15 and November 2.

[NOTE: There are no 2004 elections at the local level in Montgomery County, Md., or Northern Virginia for our PACs to endorse.]
