Silver Spring is Area’s New
Hot Spot
The June Maryland Regional meeting provided a look at Silver Spring and the dynamic changes taking place in this part of Suburban Maryland.
Bryant Foulger of Foulger Pratt discussed many new projects, including the Silver Spring Transit Center Project.
The Transit Center will house a Metro station, Marc station, an area for buses and taxis, a hotel with 150 rooms, and approximately 30,000 square feet of retail space. It will open in about four years.
Foulger Pratt is also developing a 20-acre urban renewal project in Silver Spring. It includes 400,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, and entertainment space and 240,000 square feet of office space.
There will be a 170-room Marriott Courtyard and an apartment building with 160 units in the development. The area will also include the rehabilitated Silver Theater and a Round House theater for plays. The area will have a two-acre public parking lot and two parking garages with a combined capacity of 3,200 cars. Although some parts of this project are already finished, such as the Freshfields that opened last September, the rest of the development is slated to deliver in 2003.
