Message from the President
Well, the economy may have cooled, but GWCAR has continued to push forward and has remained extremely busy. Beginning with the RealTOUR in June to planning the Golf Tournament on October 1, launching a membership drive, and attacking many issues with various branches of the government, we have been actively working to increase our outreach and improve our recognition as a powerful industry force.
The RealTOUR was once again sold out and brought out the exciting new areas of development that are occurring in the NOMA and Southeast marketplaces. This event, again headed by Dave Bevirt, was a huge success and is recognized by the industry as a premier event with which we are able to provide our members. If you attended, there was a tremendous amount of potential demonstrated; if you missed it - stay tuned for the details on next year's event.
This year's golf tournament certainly proves to follow in the footsteps of its predecessors. Once again the wonderful folks at The PB Dye Golf Course in Ijamsville, MD will host the event. Sponsorships are going fast and I am sure that it will sell out once again. If you haven't signed up for a sponsorship, please contact Andy Cole at (301) 571-6500 or Elizabeth Morelli at GWCAR (301) 590-8773.
In mid-July, we kicked off a membership drive. During our drive, new members only pay state and national dues, and do not have to pay GWCAR dues or the application fee to join. There is still time for companies to take advantage of this offer. We will be contacting many who have not responded to encourage them to join. Please encourage your colleagues who are not members to join the association. GWCAR is actively working for each and every one of the commercial practitioners in the area, but our efforts can be better implemented if we have increased participation - both from a financial perspective and a human resource effort. We need the help and ideas of the broad array of individuals that comprise our industry. For additional information, please contact me at (202) 478-2378 or Kathy Erb at GWCAR (301) 590-8764.
I look forward to the coming months and helping to make GWCAR work for you and our industry. If you have any suggestions, please do not hesitate contacting anyone on the Board or any of our valued GWCAR employees.
Scott Johnston
2001 President
